Pray For Your Students

Are you praying for students you know? I’ve been praying these things. Join me.

I pray students value learning.

“Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.” ~Proverbs 4:13

I pray students will confidently ask God for wisdom.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”  ~James 1:5

I pray students are willing to dig for wisdom, to strive to discover it, and to apply themselves to understand it. I pray they prioritize God’s perspective, wisdom, and instruction more highly than wealth and anything else they think matters.

“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.”  ~Proverbs 4:7-8

“Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.”  ~Proverbs 8:10-11

I pray students truly know the God of the Bible deep down and, therefore, fear Him.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”  ~Proverbs 1:7

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”  ~Proverbs 9:10

I pray students know God well enough that they can fully trust Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”  ~Proverbs 3:5

I pray God’s truths and understanding are more important to them than finishing their work or earning a good grade. I pray they put forth real effort this year and that they’re not afraid of hard, meaningful work.

“My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding;  yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”  ~Proverbs 2:1-5

I pray students use what they learn.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”  ~Matthew 7:24-27

“What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”  ~Philippians 4:9

I pray students thank and praise God for knowledge and wisdom as Daniel did after God revealed the meaning of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king’s matter.” ~Daniel 2:20-23

Let’s love students by praying for them. And, while we’re at it, we can pray these for ourselves, as we’re learners, too.
